Peace Week: In response to a steady rise of gun violence in South Philadelphia and other parts of the city of Philadelphia, Unity in the Community is host to a seven day Peace Week in South Philadelphia. The week-long program is jam packed with free events and activities for multigenerational residents of South Philadelphia.
The daily events include:
·Prayer Service with local pastors and community leaders to begin Peace Week.
·Peace Rally and March – a call to action- along several blocks of South Philadelphia.
·Teen Night offers a free party with music, games and live entertainment for teenagers at Wilson
Park Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia.
·Peace Conference which consists of community leaders, entrepreneurs, and media
professionals that will educate the community on how to be successful in the business world-
-while promoting the importance of peace. Past panelist included: Philadelphia hip-hop artist,
Freeway, Roc-Nation Producer, Jahlil Beats, State Representative Jordan Harris, Executive
Director of the Philadelphia Youth Commission, Jamira Burley, Christian Crosby and Michael
Goings from the Philadelphia 76ers.
·College Readiness is a special day for students entering their freshmen year of college. Unity
in the Community will provide ten lucky students and their parents with donated items from
community members. These items include materials such as text books, book bags, school
supplies, dorm essentials and more. The goal for this event is to properly prepare students for
success as they enter their freshman year of college.
·Ball 4 Peace is a friendly basketball competition among local celebrities, players from the
Philadelphia 76ers, and media personalities with live music, free giveaways and more.
·The “Block Party” is Unity in the Community’s signature event and one of the most memorable
summer activities for the residents of South Philadelphia. The annual “Stop the Violence”
community block party is a day of fun, entertainment and empowerment with live music
performances, free food,fun activities, prize giveaways, a fashion show and much more. The
block party was created to bring everyone together and address the violence in our community.
the most talked about highlight of the event are the celebrity performances! Past performances
and appearances have included Trina, Angela Simmons, Meek Mill, DJ Diamond Kuts, Jazmine
Sullivan and many more.
