July 20, 2018 (Philadelphia, Pa) – Unity in the Community, a non-profit organization under the Soul Food CDC umbrella is dedicated to changing the lives of others in South Philadelphia. During Peace Week Unity in the Commuity will focus on concrete solutions on how to decrease the gun violence in Philadelphia with their 7th Annual Peace Week Initiative.This year, each day of Peace Week’s week-long program of FREE community activities and special events will be in memory of  young South Philadelphia residents who have lost their lives to gun violence. We will be releasing videos of the parents testimonals on what it’s like to lose a child.

The victims being honored are as follows: Marquez Houston , Saymir Walker , Robert “Camero Rob” Wilks , Caleer Miller , Mr.Poochie , Kristian Arthur and many more

Monday, July 30 , 2018 – Operation College Help!

Operation College Help

Location: 22nd and Tasker Streets

Time: 6:00pm

Mayor Jim Kenney, WDAS-FM radio personality Patty Jackson and Anton Moore deliver checks to the homes of local college students courtesy of Indego & Health Partners. In addition to that we will be delivering two brand new laptop computers courtesy of Comcast Eternet Essential 

The event will be in memory of  Marquez Houston and Saymir Walker , who were victims of gun violence.


Tuesday, July 31 , 2018 – South Philly Senior Block Party

Location: Wilson Park Senior Citizen Pavilion ( 2500 Jackson Street)

Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm

The Senior Block Party is a fun filled day of live entertainment , music , games , food and much more.

This event will be in memory of “Poochie” who was a victim of gun violence.

Tuesday, July 31, 2018 – Ball 4 Peace Basketball Game

Location: Smith Playground (2100 South 24th Street)

Time: 6:00PM

Unity in the Community and The Ralph Brooks Basketball League will host Ball 4 Peace basketball game featuring former Temple University basketball player Ramone Moore and former Syracuse University player Scoop Jardine. At halftime , we will have speakers engaging the community on the issue of gun violence.

* This game will be in memory of Camaro Rob who was a victim of gun violence.

Wednesday, August 1, – Free Expungement Clinic for Ex-Offenders

Location: Dickson House, 1920 S. 20th Street

Time: 5:300PM – 8:00PM

Unity in the Community will be collaborating with Diversified Community Service hosting a free Record Expungement Clinic to assist residents of the community with an opportunity to get their record expunged free of charge. In addition to that we’re going to have employment agenices onsite to speak about job opportunities. The Keynote Speaker will be Wallo 267.

* This event will be in memory of Krisitan Arthur.

Thursday, August 2 – Build You Brand

Location: Kicks USA 2200 West Oregon Avenue

Time: 6:00PM – 8:00PM

Uity in the Community willb teaming up to host their annual “Build Your Brand” panel discussion will feature popular entrepenurs from around the City of Philadelphia and they will be giving the residents of the community an opportunity to learn how to start their own brand and market their business. The featured panelist will be Faheem (the Barber) , Sonia Lewis ( Student Loan Doctor) , Saudia Shuler ( Restaraunt Owner) ,

* In memory of Caleer Miller , who was a victim of gun violence.

Friday, August 3 – “A Mother’s Pain” Panel Discussion

Location:  Audenreid High School

Time: 6:00PM

Joined by Mother’s Bonded By Grief organization and local mothers who have lost their children to gun violence“A Mother’s Pain” panel discussion will highlight inner city violence, guns and community policing. Police Lt. Johnny Walker, funeral director Franchella Slater, Social Media Activist Terrence Harrell from No Gun Zone and many more leaders will participate in the discussion.

 Saturday, August 4 – Unity in the Community’s Annual Celebrity Block Party

Location: 20th and Snyder Streets

Time: 12:00PM – 8:00PM

Philadelphia’s Boom 103.9, IBW Local 98 , Keystone Health and Universal Companies present Unity in the Community’s 11th Annual Celebrity Block Party featuring  Hip Hop Artist Reco Havoc , I AM A Role Model and a Special Suprise Big Performance . The block party is a community favorite attracting hundreds of children and families for a day of food, games and live musical entertainment.

Launched in 2009, Unity in the Community is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of others in the South Philadelphia area by inspiring and giving back. The organization is host to five charity events a year including a free Thanksgiving buffet for the homeless, the Ultimate Prom Experience, Operation Holiday Help, a free Halloween party for children and a celebrity-packed summer concert block party.
