2017 Peace Week
Unity in the Community Peace Week Celebration Details:

Monday, July 31st, 2017

Unity in the Community Peace week will kick off on Monday, July 31st, 2017 at Universal Audenreid High School with our annual “Ball 4 Peace” basketball game with two former college stars Temple University’s own Ramone Moore and Syracuse University owns Rick Jackson. We will do this event in memory of Angelo “Lo” Colon, who was murdered in South Philadelphia last September. At halftime, we will have speakers speak about the importance of promoting on violence and putting the guns down. The event will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 pm. Power 99 FM is our radio partner for this event.

Tuesday, August 1, 2017:

Unity in the Community will partner with AmeriHealth & Radio One Philadelphia to host our annual “Senior Block Party“. There will be line dancing, free food, games, live DJ and much more. The event will be hosted by Lady B. This event will be hosted from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event will take place at 2500 Jackson Street.

Unity in the Community will partner with Kicks USA & Radio One Philadelphia to host our first ever “Build Your Brand” event that will feature Quincy Harris from Fox 29 , Milano Di Rouge who is the owner of Milano Clothing , Jermaine Dolly who is a gospel artist , Barbra Devan ( Owner of Tasties Restaurant) , and  Allgermong Allen (Real Estate Agent) .The event will be hosted by Paris Nicole from Boom 103.9 FM. It will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kicks USA which is located at 2200 Oregon Avenue.

Unity in the Community will partner with Ride Indigo to host our annual “Operation College Help” initiative at 5:30 PM at 22nd & Point Breeze Avenue. We will be surprising two less fortunate students at their home with a book scholarship for $500.00. In addition to that Patty Jackson from WDAS and Mayor Kenney will be joining us to surprise the students that are from South Philadelphia. The purpose of this event is to invest in the education of our young people.This event will be in memory of Tyrese Johnson a young man that was murdered here in South Philadelphia.

Unity in the Community will partner with Community Legal Services and Diversified Community Services to host our “free expungement clinic” at the Dixon House which is located at 1920 South 20th Street.The residents will be able to come and see if they are eligible to get the process started in getting their record expunged. The keynote speaker for this event will be  Maleek Jackson who is from South Philadelphia and was formerly incarcerated and came out with his own book. The event will take place from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Unity in the Community will host a “Mother’s Plea” rally against gun violence in the community. This event will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 at Wharton Square Park which is located in South Philadelphia at 24th & Wharton. The Mother’s will get an opportunity to tell their story of how they lost their child and also make a plea to the community to put down the guns. Community leaders will join in to encourage the community to put the guns down as well as funeral directors.

Saturday, August 5th, 2017

 

Unity in the Community will team up with Boom 103.9 to host their 10th Annual “Block Party” on 20th & Snyder Avenue. The event will include live DJ’s, performances, award ceremony, moon bouncers, free food and much more.

In addition to that, there will be a surprise performance by a nationally known artist.
