July 20, 2015 (Philadelphia, Pa) – Unity in the Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of others in South Philadelphia, will kick off their fourth-annual Peace Week on Sunday July 26th with a community sof
tball game led by America’s s favorite Little Leaguer, Mo’Ne Davis of South Philly’s Taney Dragons. Produced by Unity in the Community founder and president, Anton Moore, Peace Week 2015 aims to empower, entertain and enlighten thousands of South Philadelphia residents during a seven-day program of free activities and special events. From senior citizens to students, children and ex-offenders, this year’s Peace Week has something for everyone!
“I am confident that this will be the best and most effective Peace Week ever,” says Anton Moore, president, Unity in the Community. “With recent acts of violence shadowing our community, we need this time of collaboration and unification more than ever. This year Peace Week is armed with the support of more than 30 organizations, participation from the Mayor of Philadelphia, and many of South Philadelphia’s finest community leaders as we continue to make a public stand against violence.” We would like to give a special thank you to our sponsors State Rep Jordon Harris , Universal Companies , Bike Share , AmeriHealth , BME and many more.

Sunday, July 26, 2015 – 3 :00 – 6:00PM
Community Softball Game: Super-star recipient of the ESPY “Best Breakthrough Athlete” award, Mo’ne Davis of South Philly’s Taney Dragons will come home to toss the first pitch at the Unity in the Community softball game. Participating organizations include: South Philly Review, Universal Companies, Don’t Shoot I Want a Future, Office of Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, State Rep Jordan Harris, Diversified Community Services West Passyunk Association, Rainbow Coalition and many more. AMP 96.5 will be on hand to serve free ice cream. This event will take place at Smith Play Ground, located at 2100 South 24th Street.
Monday, July 27, 2015 – 6:00 PM
South Philly Artist 4 Peace Rally: Unity in the Community partners with Philly’s #1 station for hip-hop and R&B, Power 99 FM, various hip hop artists and community leaders for “Artist 4 Peace”, where artists and local politicians will gather to address violence and share ways to implement change in the community. Groups representing South Philadelphia will meet at Wharton Square Park. Participants to include: State Rep Jordan Harris, Don’t Shoot, Will Little of Redemption Forgiveness Peace, Simon One Punch Carr, Office of Councilamn Johnson , Mina Say What from Power 99 FM, Office of State Senator Anthony Williams and many more.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2015 – 10:00 AM
Senior Brunch: Democratic Mayoral Nominee Jim Kenney, State Senator Anthony Williams, Radio One Philadelphia and State Rep. Jordan Harris will host a free senior brunch at the Wilson Park Towers located at 25th & Jackson Streets. The event will consist of live entertainment, free food, line dancing and an award ceremony.
Wednesday, July 29, 2015 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Expungement Clinic: The first – ever Unity in the Community FREE Expungement Clinic will give ex-offenders in the community with a non-violent criminal past, a second chance at life! The legal team at Montoya Shaffer will host the event, joined by organizations such as Ardella’s House, The Elevation Project, The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy and Diversified Community. Radio host Patty Jackson of WDAS-FM will be one of the keynote speakers. Additional offerings will include free onsite resume and job readiness workshops and much more. The event will take place at the Dixon House, located at 1920 South 20th Street.
Thursday, July 30, 2015 – 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Operation College Help: Mayor Michael Nutter, Radio One Philadelphia and Unity in the Community will make a surprise visit to the homes of three freshmen entering college this fall and award them with a $300.00 scholarship for books and essentials needed for college. The students will be nominated through social media and are residents of South Philadelphia.We will meet at 20th and Snyder Avenue.
Friday, July 31, 2015 – 6:00 PM
Ball 4 Peace: Unity in the Community in partnership with Rick Jackson & the Point Breeze Association will host a celebrity “Ball 4 Peace” game at Audenreid High School, located at 33rd and Tasker Streets. A special surprise NBA Basketball Star is going to tip of the ball at the start of the “Ball 4 Peace” game. The game will also feature South Philadelphia natives Ramone Moore and Rick Jackson. Half-time will feature a special tribute honoring longtime community activist Kenyatta Bey.
Saturday, August 1, 2015 – 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Unity in the Community Block Party: Peace Week 2015 will culminate with the legendary “Unity in the Community Block Party”. The FREE community event, in its eighth year will provide free food, children activities, live entertainment, prize giveaways, and much more. The block party was created to promote unity among residents and address the violence in our area. Special surprise celebrity performer to be announced in the coming weeks.
About Unity in the Community
Launched in 2009, Unity in the Community is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of others in the South Philadelphia area by inspiring and giving back. The organization is host to five charity events a year including a free Thanksgiving buffet for the homeless, the Ultimate Prom Experience, Operation Holiday Help, a free Halloween party for children and a celebrity-packed summer concert block party. In 2012, Unity in the Community kicked off its first-ever Peace Week. President, Unity in the Community, Anton Moore is a recipient of the 2013 BME Leadership Awards.
