July 21, 2014 (Philadelphia, Pa) – Unity in the Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of others in South Philadelphia, is extending their annual Peace Week festivities to various locations in Southwest Philadelphia. In its third year, Peace Week 2014 will offer South and Southwest residents a jam packed week of daily programs and free activities that are designed to empower, educate and entertain a multi-generational audience of community members. Sponsors include Isaiah Thomas 2015, Universal Companies, Sandi Mac Ent, BMe , Spin Entertainment and Amerihealth. Peace Week 2014 will kick off Sunday July 27 with its first-ever “Charity Softball Game” and end Saturday August 2 with its signature celebrity block party hosted by actress and Good Music recording artist Teyana Taylor.
“Unity in the Community is excited to expand our action plan to other parts of the city such as Southwest Philadelphia,” says Anton Moore, president, Unity in the Community. “The issues that Peace Week focuses on are city-wide, so no matter what area you live in, we all share the same mission and that’s providing a safe and positive environment for our community.”

- Sunday, July 27, 2014 – 3 :00 – 5:00PM
Charity Softball Game: The first-ever Unity in the Community “Charity Softball game” will feature community leaders , business owners , media and elected officials from the South and Southwest Philadelphia community.Wired 96.5 will be on hand to serve free ice cream. Participating organizations include: South Philly Review, Universal Companies, Don’t Shoot I Want a Future , Yesha Ministries, Office of Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, State Rep Jordan Harris, Diversified Community Services, R.O.A.D, West Passyunk Association, Rainbow Coalition and many more. This event will take place at Smith Play Ground, located at 2100 South 24th Street.
- Monday, July 28th, 2014 – 6:00 PM
Southwest and South Philly Peace/Rally March : Unity in the Community partners with Power 99 FM, hip hop artist/activist Mont Brown and Rasheen Crews in two different locations simultaneously. Groups representing Southwest Philadelphia will meet at Kingsessing Recreation, located at 50th and Kingsessing and the group representing South Philadelphia will meet at Stinger Square Park, located on 32nd & Reed Streets. Both groups will unite on the Graysferry Bridge, to show a sign of unity and peace between both neighborhoods. Participants to include: Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, Dorothy Johnson Speight of “Mother’s in Charge”, State Rep Jordan Harris, Will Little of Redemption Forgiveness Peace, Tyema Sanchez of Handbagz for Peace, Carvin Haggins, Mina Say What from Power 99 FM, Office of State Senator Anthony Williams and many more.

Success Conference: Unity in the Community will host their annual panel discussion known as the Success Conference which will be hosted by Shamara & Laiya of HOT 107.9FM at Yesha Fellowship Hall, 2301 Snyder Avenue. This year’s discussion will cover overcoming obstacles and maintaining success in the business world. Participants include Tiffany Williams of Bellargo Piarge, Tiffany Wade of (Anti)-Cancer Apparel, NFL star Raheem Brock, Zakia Blain of FBFFitness and television personality, Kharisma McIlwaine.

Senior Brunch: Lady B from Old School 100.3 & State Rep. Jordan Harris
host a free senior brunch at the Wilson Park Towers located at 25th & Jackson Streets. The event will consist of live entertainment, free food, line dancing and an award ceremony.
Roll Bounce Skating Party – 6:00 PM
Children and young adults are invited to Roll Bounce, a free skating party at Elmwood Skating Rink, located at 71st & Elmwood. This event will be hosted by Power 99 FM’s DJ Diamond Kuts & DJ Ant Liva. The event will include a brief rap session on non-violence and a special tribute to two young men that died on the streets of Philadelphia.

Social Media Fundraiser: Unity in the Community will launch their first ever “Social Media Fundraiser” to help benefit the victims of the 65th & Gesner Street fire. Unity in the Community will
team up with various organizations, entertainers, media personalities, elected officials and ordinary residents to raise $5,000 in one day for the fire victims. Unity in the Community will be challenging themselves and their partners to help with raising $5,000.00 for the fire victims. Unity in the – more- Community will be asking their partners to donate and also repost the “Go Fund Me Link” to their social media sites to get more be involved to donate. The hash tag that we will use will be #helpgesnerstreet. The community will have from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM to see if they can raise the $5,000.00 in one day. The Go Fund Me account was set by the Christ International Church and the Liberian Association of Pennsylvania on behalf of the fire victims.

Ball 4 Peace: Unity in the Community in partnership with Rick Jackson & the Point Breeze Association will host a celebrity “Ball 4 Peace” game at Audenreid High School, located at 33rd and Tasker Streets. Jason Thompson of the Sacramento Kings is among the first to confirm his participation in “Ball 4 Peace“. This event will be hosted by Cappuchino from Power 99 FM and will feature a half-time presentation awarding local students with a book scholarship for college. The game will also feature South Philadelphia natives Ramone Moore and Rick Jackson.
- Saturday, August 2, 2014 – 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Unity in the Community Block Party: Unity in the Community’s signature event and one of the most memorable summer activities for the residents of South Philadelphia will not disappoint in 2014! The seventh annual “Unity in the Community Block Party” will take place at 20th & Snyder from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The legendary community event has hosted some of the most recognized names in entertainment and is a free outdoor bonanza of children activities, live music performances, free food, prize giveaways, a fashion show and much more. The block party was created to promote unity among residents and address the violence in our area. The Block Party will be hosted by Kanye West’s artist, BET Host, Good Music’s own Teyana Taylor and Hot 107.9 FM’s Q Deezy. Performing on the main stage will be Lee Mazin, Asia Sparks, Brotherly Love , Astronauts Really Fly and a special surprise guest.
