Unity in the Community President Anton Moore to Receive the Philadelphia 76ers “Heroes Among Us” Award
Philadelphia, Pa (November 5, 2013) – On Friday, November 7 at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, Unity in the Community president Anton Moore will be declared a hero by the Philadelphia 76ers. Moore will be presented with the coveted “Heroes Among Us” award during their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to children and the South Philadelphia community.
The Sixers “Heroes Among Us” program awards people in the greater Philadelphia-area who have made exceptional and overwhelming contributions to better the lives of children in the community. Each recipient of the award will receive half of the proceeds from the Sixers Strong 50/50 Raffle to donate to the charity of their choice (recognizable 501 (c) 3). This award is given in the spirit of the beloved Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who founded Alex’s Lemonade Stand to raise funds and awareness to end childhood cancer.
Moore is the president of the leading organization Unity in the Community, a non-profit based in South Philadelphia that is dedicated to changing the lives of others. Through the work of his organization, Moore has changed the lives of numerous young people and less fortunate families. The organization is host to eight annual charity events which includes: a free Thanksgiving buffet for the homeless, a Coat and School supply drive , New York Experience trip for teens , the Ultimate Prom Experience a charitable program for high school seniors, Operation Holiday Help, a free Halloween party for children and a celebrity-packed summer concert block party. In 2012, Unity in the Community kicked off its first-ever Peace Week. From speaking at schools to devoting countless time to encourage and inspire young people, Moore’s commitment to young people is unparalleled.
